         My name is Ms. Moniz and I have the pleasure of assisting young artists in grades K through five as they explore the world of Art.  I graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth with two Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees: one in Painting and the other in Art Education.  I then went on to obtain a Masters in Teaching the Creative Arts from Bridgewater State University.  I am fortunate to spend each day involved in something that is more than just a job; being a teacher is part of who I am.  I am continually researching articles and websites looking for the most current and effective teaching strategies (not to mention wondering what teachers did before Pinterest!) I employ a lot of organizational practices and routines in class so that students can practice independence and learn to become self-motivated.  If I am doing my job well, then my students feel as if I am there to help them achieve their own definition of success.  
         I am also a mother to a sweet, witty, energetic seven year old boy.  Caring for him reminds me that the business of growing up is in fact a lot of work.  That is why as a teacher I never forget that I am being entrusted with other people's children.  It is a tremendous responsibility and I realize that all students have different needs.  I honor my role and treat students with the respect they deserve.  When we function as a team, we can roll up our sleeves together, bravely dive into creativity, and celebrate our individuality.
